A live map of trusted local pros, with real prices, real availability, and a booking that takes a few taps.

Project Overview

Finding a reliable plumber, hairdresser or tutor in Hungary still runs on phone calls and Facebook groups. You cannot see prices, you cannot see who is free on Thursday, and you cannot tell who is worth trusting. The pros have the mirror image: missed calls and unanswered messages.

Frendex is a local services booking app built for both sides at once. The home screen is a live map of the providers around you. Open a profile, see services, prices, past work and reviews, then book through a dedicated flow. It is free for customers: only providers pay, through a subscription.

Key Features

  • Live map home: nearby providers as tappable pins, not a search box and an empty list.
  • Profiles that answer the real questions: services, prices, portfolio photos and genuine reviews on one page.
  • Three ways to book: take an instant slot, schedule a time, or just send a question first.
  • Bookings in one place: track what is pending, confirmed and completed, with messaging alongside.
  • Visible trust: identity-verified providers, earned badges and real reviews before you let anyone into your home.
  • Tools that turn a skill into a business: calendar, availability, customer records, statistics and push campaigns on the paid plans.
  • The Freestyle category: beside plumbers and tutors you can book an “IKEA túlélő buddy” or a “Galambelkergető”, a pigeon chaser.

Tech Stack & Integrations

  • Flutter: one codebase covering iOS and Android, phone and tablet.
  • Supabase: accounts, data, media and the live updates behind everything on screen.
  • Google Maps: the map home screen and all location-based discovery.
  • RevenueCat: provider subscriptions and in-app purchases, consistent across both stores.
  • OneSignal: push for bookings, messages and provider campaigns, in the recipient’s own language.
  • Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Microsoft Clarity and Resend: analytics, crash monitoring, session replay and transactional email, with analytics behind a consent switch.

Challenges & Solutions

An empty map kills the first session. Every two-sided marketplace launches thin, and a map with no pins tells a first-time user the product is dead. Rather than let discovery come back empty, we made it keep surfacing something worth showing, including providers who work remotely. New users land on a screen with content.

App Store review is its own project. A location-heavy marketplace carrying user profiles, photos and messages attracts scrutiny, and Frendex went through three review rounds in June 2026. We treated that as a product problem, not paperwork: working reporting and blocking, an age gate, honest permission prompts, and a privacy disclosure that matches the app. It has been on both stores since.

One codebase, two audiences, two languages, two device classes. Customers and providers use different halves of the same app, in Hungarian or English, on phones and tablets. We built a token-based design system and responsive rules, then held every screen to them. That is the unglamorous half of UI/UX design, and what stops a product this wide from drifting.

Development Time

The first database schema landed in March 2026. A signed Android build went to closed testing on 26 April, App Store review ran through June, and the app has been live and shipping updates since, reaching version 1.0.9 by August. The changelog records 86 dated entries across 72 working days: five months from first draft to a live product on two stores.

Impact or Outcome

Frendex is live on the App Store and Google Play, runs on iOS and Android from one codebase, and works in Hungarian and English, with translation coverage still being completed. Its production catalog carries 10 service categories and more than 100 professions.

The app is early and gaining traction: it is live with its first paying providers. Beyond that, no published download, rating or revenue numbers exist that we can verify, so we print none.

My Role & Value

We are a one person studio, and Frendex is the whole of that in one project: product definition, the design system, the iOS and Android app, the backend, the bilingual store listings, and the release pipeline that ships it. One set of decisions, no handoffs.
